20 blank notecards (5 each of 4 designs) with envelopes in a decorative box and printed on recycled paper. Acclaimed in the 1970s as one of the founders of the pattern and decoration movement, Robert Rahway Zakanitch has found artistic inspiration in highly patterned Islamic, Byzantine, and Celtic art as well as intricately woven lace. His early artwork reflected an abstract expressionist style, and in response to the over intellectual character of minimalism, he turned instead to the beauty of ornamentation as a legitimate subject matter for contemporary art. In Zakanitch’s recent work, he has created several exuberant series with a floral focus. Four of his whimsical blooms are featured in this notecard assortment and attest to his statement that beauty “is as natural as breathing . . . and I never thought art was about anything else.”

Azalea, 2012
Zinnia, 2012
Hibiscus, 2012
Nasturtium, 2012
